National Insurance Awareness Day

It’s a lot easier to name your car insurance company than to explain how they help you. At Sam & Ash, we want to change that. June 28th is National Insurance Awareness Day and you deserve peace of mind after an accident.

How can you tell what your policy does for you? Check your auto declaration page. Then check our sample below. We provide explanations and tips for coverage that helps. The right insurance policy (combined with the right lawyer) can do a lot to help you after an accident.

Liability Insurance for Bodily Injury and Property Damage

Liability Insurance compensates another person’s injuries when you are at fault. You are required by law to carry it in the state of Nevada.

Nevada requires you to have a liability car insurance policy that carries a minimum coverage per accident of the following amounts:

Sam & Ash Pro Tip: Choosing the right policy limits is about protecting your assets. If your policy is minimal and you have substantial assets, your assets may be used to pay the claim holder if the total damages exceed your policy.

Medical Payment Coverage

Medical Payment Coverage reimburses health care expenses to treat your injuries and those of your passengers, even when you were at fault.

Sam & Ash Pro Tip: Consider Personal Injury Protection (PIP) as an alternative. PIP will also compensate lost income, childcare, and funeral expenses related to an accident.

Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage

Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Coverage (UM/UIM) makes up your own injury and property losses if the at-fault driver isn’t insured or doesn’t have enough insurance. UM/UIM coverage offers smart protection. The at-fault driver may not have other sources available to compensate you.

Sam & Ash Pro Tip: Don’t waive UM/UIM coverage, and do not elect for lower limits than your liability coverage. You deserve to protect yourself equally.

Also, don’t be misled by a “Full Coverage” policy. Full Coverage typically includes collision and comprehensive insurance, but not necessarily UM/UIM.

Collision and Comprehensive Coverage

Collision Coverage is for repairs or replacements to your car after an accident with another vehicle.

Comprehensive Coverage helps cover incidents besides car accidents, like vandalism, damage from weather, and accidents with animals. Both Collision and Comprehensive Coverage will likely include deductible payments.

Sam & Ash Pro Tip: Modifications may add value to your car, but they are not typically covered under a standard collision policy. Get Modified Car and Additional Equipment Insurance.

Towing and Road Service

Also known as roadside assistance, this includes towing, tire changes, jump starts, lockout assistance, and gas or oil delivery services. Coverage won’t extend to the new parts, but it will for labor charges.

Loss of Use/Rental Coverage

Loss of Use/Rental Coverage will keep you mobile while your car is being repaired after an accident your insurance covers. That’s why Rental Coverage is a good add-on with Collision Insurance. You will be reimbursed for a rental or for other alternative transportation. It may provide additional help for situations not covered by your Collision or Comprehensive policies, like when cold weather drains your battery, or you’re stuck in snow.

Getting What’s Right

When you choose helpful coverage, you do what’s right. Unfortunately, you cannot count on the insurance company to do that, too. Insurance companies protect their bottom line by paying as little as possible on your claim – sometimes they pay nothing at all.

This is why it helps to call Sam & Ash immediately after an accident. You pay nothing up front and we will pursue your claim for compensation to the fullest. Get started with a free case consultation at 702-820-1234. We will make sure you get the most value from your premium payments.
